Types of Domains

How do I get a Domain?

Well, you need to get with a domain registrar.  There are many sites that can help you get a domain.  You can find them with a search: domain register - Google Search

Can I get a free domain?

Yes, there are places for free domains.  You can find them here: free domain names

Invalid Syntax Error

I have signed up for a domain but I get the error "Invalid Syntax Error", "Cannot find server", or "Unable to Resolve target system name <domain>" when I try to enter the domain into my browser.  What is going on?

For your domain to point to your website, you will have to get the Name servers from your hosting service.  Now in addition to the above error you have done a TRACERT  on your new domain and you get the below error:

The above error is from two different problems.  One can be that your hosting service does not support domain transfers.  The other problem can be that you do not have the right name servers registered with your registrar. You should check with both your hosting service and with your registrar to verify the name servers.  Once you have entered the name servers, it can take up to 72 hours to update all of the DNS servers and the domain name registry.

Types of Domains

"What are the different types of domains"  There are several

bulletTLD or Top Level Domains; these are ones like .com, .net, .org, .edu. A complete list of TLDs are available from IANA
bulletccTLD or Country Coded Top Level Domians; these are like .uk, .us, .be, .ur and so on. A complete list of TLDs are available from IANA
bullet Infrastructure Top-Level Domain; For internet infrastructure.
bulletSub level domains; these are domains that are below the TLD and are held by the TLD registrant, usually a web hosting service.  Example: .e2uhosting.net and e2u.cc are held by E2UHosting.com  and are only useable on that hosting service.
